Ultrasonic Liposuction Method

Filed under: Surgery — admin at 3:39 pm on Sunday, August 3, 2008

Fat suction (or) liposuction is a newly developed method to remove access fat content present in the body from parts like waist, hips, thighs, chin, and etc. surgical procedure which are considered as standard leads to lots of problems like blood loss and some times it leads to few fatal problems to the patients.

At present the latest technology being used in the fat suction involves the method of using ultrasonic waves which helps in removing fat contents effectively. In this method of ultrasonic liposuction the fat contents are subjected to ultrasonic waves and losses its fat cells and in turns convert in to oil and the oil is removed easily. This process is much easy compared to others since removing oil is easier than removing fat contents.

Ultrasonic fat suction machines contain components like ultrasonic generator, ultrasonic probe and suction canula in which the probe and the suction canula are attached to the ultrasonic generator with the vacuum machine of suction. The process of ultrasonic fat suction starts from injecting the fluid to the fat contents and then canula with the ultrasonic probe passed to the fat contents which results in breaking the fat contents to oil. The fluid injected will absorb the oil and will result in the formation of emulsion. Then it is sucked out through a hollow tube.

Just like the other surgical methods, ultrasonic method also contains some disadvantages like the presence of fluid in the operated area even after the completion of the surgery, etc. Only people with over 18 years of age can go through with fat suction. No matter what you decide, I always recommend consulting an expert before going through fat suction because fat suction is not a weight loss method that could help you in achieving healthy weight loss.

Science behind Fat Suction

Filed under: Surgery — admin at 3:16 pm on Sunday, August 3, 2008

The science of fat suction has many basic principles based on the flow mechanics. It is not like just sucking fat contents through a tube, its basic level contains 2 level process of removing fat. At first under the skin a hollow shaped tube is inserted and moved back and forth to dislodge the fat contents and the fat contents are moved to a plastic bottle.

The fat suction’s safety and effectiveness is based on three components which includes tumescence concept, water vaporization & suction concept and tubing size & design concept. The most complicated part is placing of fluid into the fat contents for suction. Putting large amount of fluid in the areas where fat contents are present is used in every procedure of fat suction and is called as tumescent infiltration. It is helpful to reduce bleeding by making the fat compartments larger to let the tube penetrate. With the help of tumescent infiltration surgery can be done with out pain and with out losing blood. Fat suction is truly like water boiling, the fat contents of the body are removed by means of bubbles through vaporization of water, and you can see the bubbles in the plastic bottle which is actually due to water vapor.

The hollow tube used under the skin differs in their diameter and in the holes at the tip. At first these tubes are large and left so much of depressions in the skin due to removing too much fat contents in a very short time. But now-a-days tubes used for fat suction are smaller in size and removes the fat in short pieces, it decreased the problem of irregularity in the skin after fat suction. The tip of the tube is made rounded to make sure it penetrates only through fats without penetrating something else. The fat contents are sucked through the holes present in the tip of the tube.

At present even new methods of fat suction are introduced for more accuracy and effectiveness.

Fat Suction

Fat suction is a method to remove excess fat contents from the body parts like chin, thighs, buttocks, abdomen and stomach. This fat suction is also known as lipoplasty, suction lipectomy, liposuction and liposulpture.

It has to be noticed that this fat suction is not an alternative to exercises or diets, it is a surgical process which is used only to remove hard fat contents which is hard to remove by exercises and diets. Generally 10 to 15 pounds of fats are removed, technically fat suction is not a weight loss method, it is used only to remove excess fat and also remember losing large amount of fat contents can be dangerous to health.

The types of fat suctions that are performed these days are traditional liposuction, tumescent liposuction, super wet liposuction and ultrasound liposuction and so on. All the fat suction methods use a straw like tube for fat suction.

In fat suction, at first saline water is injected between muscles and fat contents in order to separate them. In traditional liposuction, the amount of saline water used is less than the amount of fat. In tumescent liposuction, the volume of saline water used will be 3 to 4 times more than the volume of fat contents to be removed. Adding more saline water will help the surgeons to break the fat cells easily, but excess water could result in affecting the homeostasis of the body. If the amount of saline water used is equal to the amount of fat contents to be removed, it is called as super wet liposuction, which is more popularly used by the surgeons. The fat contents are liquefied using ultrasonic sound waves before the process of suction in ultrasonic liposuction; this ultrasonic method is not used often because it could result in the death of the skin cells.

Local or general anesthesia like lidocaine is used in almost all types of fat suction methods. Some times epinephrine is used in order to reduce blood loss. I advice diabetics patients should not undergo fat suction.

After surgery – When to call your surgeon

Filed under: Surgery — admin at 9:52 pm on Sunday, July 27, 2008

I am going to mention reasons to call your surgeon after surgery, because after a couple of weeks, you are going to find out how good you’re healing process is.

If anyone of this mentioned things down below has appeared, contact your surgeon.

  • You incisions start bleeding.
  • You are starting to bruise easily.
  • You notice tarry or dark (bloody) stools.
  • You have difficulty breathing.
  • You can not keep food/fluids down.
  • You are having severe pain.
  • You get a fever of 101 Fahrenheit or higher.

Things you can do to prevent difficulties.

Do not drink calories. Your caloric intake should be reduced after surgery.
This will help you lose weight. Do not try to drink liquid calories, this will
slow down your weight loss, this wont even provide nutrition.
Make your calories count when eating protein, fruits and vegetables.

Don’t eat sugar. Sugar is nothing but only empty calories.
Eating sugar will cause hunger pangs, sugar climbs, no nutrition and for some gastric bypass this will cause dumping syndrome. All foods that has the ingredient in the top 3 list of ingredients, you should avoid.

Avoid drinking fluids, immediately after, during or before your meal.
It is important, because if you drink fluids before and during your meal, you don’t save the little room you have in your stomach for food that contains a lot of nutrient. And drinking after, might wash away the food you have in your stomach and make you feel hungry again. You should separate food and fluids with about 30 minutes.

Follow-up visits, is important. After surgery, you will be closely monitored. If you skip appointments complications with nutrients or surgical errors will be discovered later, instead of sooner.
Keeping your appointments also helps you get motivated for your goals.

Always keep taking your medications. Never stop taking medications without your surgeons or doctors approval. Talk to your physician prior about stop taking medicines.

Avoid “snacking”, eating snacks is a bad habit that will slow down your weight loss. Always avoid junk food and eat quality meals.

Protein.
Can’t say it enough! Protein should be your main
primary to focus on when eating meals. Protein will not only
maintain your muscle mass, but also make you feel full for a longer time after eating your meal.

No alcohol! Alcohol is full of empty calories. And it contributes to stomach ulcers, witch you are already in risk of after surgery.
Also, after you have been trough a weight-loss-surgery, you are more sensitive to alcohol than you were before.

Chewing, and then chewing, and chew some more. You do not want to swallow bits that are the size of apples. Your body’s digestive system is having a lot harder to break the food down if you don’t chew enough.

Avoid pregnancy. The first 2 years after surgery, you should avoid having babies. It would be unhealthy to support a baby, and recovering from surgery, as well as losing weight. You would over load your body.

Drinks water. This will make you feel more energetic, it also makes you feel a but full, and your need to eat will drop a bit.

Things to Know Before Surgery

The number one treatment for obesity in the United States is bariatric surgery.
If you have tried to lose weight many times before, but without results, weight loss
surgery, or WLS, might be an option. After you have completed dietary changes, counselling and exercise, weight loss surgery make people to lose pounds and keep a healthy weight.

The risks of weight loss surgery.

If considering a weight loss surgery, you should first look at the risks. No idea to attempt it
if it almost means certain death. Some potential risks are minor, and some are greater and long term. I am first going to mention a couple of general risks, that applies to everybody.

1. Anesthesia

Often it accurse while being intubated , or inserting a breathing tube.
Anesthesia awareness is a very discussed topic all around the world.

This is a very rare state of mind. Nothing that you really need to worry about,
unless it happens. Malignant hyperthermia is when the patients body temperature
rise very fast and rapidly. People who has suffered from it before, is in a bigger risk
of having it during surgery, which is a big threat.

2. Over bleeding

Bleeding during surgery is expected. But bleeding to much might make a blood transplant necessary. This is a really serious problem, if you are a member of a religion that don’t allow blood transplant.

Other general risks:

  • Delayed healing after surgery.
  • Difficulty breathing after surgery.
  • Infections after Surgery.
  • And worst of all, Death Due to Surgery.

But there are other risks that you should not take for granted.

Anemia: Decrease your body’s ability to absorb nutrients.
Osteoporosis and Bone Degeneration:
Not enough calcium and your boned will be weakened.
Excess Skin: When losing weight quickly, excess skin is very common.
Migration: This is also a common side effect of surgery.

This is just some of the risks, I am highly recommending you to see a professional surgeon.
